Crimex widget terms

These terms cover the free Crimex crime search widget (the pop-out, the search box and the iframe version). Crimex is the name of the service at crimex.co.uk. Questions: info@crimex.co.uk.

1. Free use, within fair use

You may put the widget on your own website for free. It is built for ordinary visitor traffic, so we limit how fast it can be used. Today the limits, per visitor connection, are:

Someone who goes over a limit is asked to wait and try again. We may change these limits.

2. The "Powered by Crimex" credit stays

The pop-out shows "Powered by Crimex" in its footer, linking to crimex.co.uk. You must not hide, remove or alter it. The only exception is a paid Crimex key that we have allowed to hide the credit; the widget checks this for you. Please also keep the "Crime data by Crimex" link from the code snippet in your page. Do not add rel="nofollow" to it.

3. No misuse or scraping

4. Where the data comes from

The crime data is police-recorded crime from police.uk, published under the Open Government Licence v3.0. The widget shows that attribution. Recorded crime is not the same as all crime, and it is shown as it was published, without any promise that it is complete, current or fit for a particular purpose.

5. We can withdraw access

Crimex may change, limit or stop the widget, or withdraw your access to it, at any time, with or without notice, for example if these terms are broken or the service has to change. You can stop using it whenever you like by removing the code from your site.

6. Your details

What we store when you ask for the code, and how to have it removed, is explained on the widget page and in the privacy policy. Contact: info@crimex.co.uk.
